I had the pleasure to attend “Den D Domovarníků“ (day of home brewers) on 4th of December. The day at Podskalska was full of presentation from vendors, socializing and talk from professionals.

I got the opportunity to talk to about four vendors. Among most interesting, Breflex, company cultivating hops for big breweries such as Budvar. Also, the owner of sladovna Bruntal, explained me the interesting process of their smoked malt and convinced me to buy some malt concentrate for their light beer Horall, I’m looking forward to try it.

First presenter Petr Buriánek spoke about weiss beer brewing and the differences between home and micro brewing.

Ing. Jan Šuráň, from Pivo Praha (Pivovarsky Dum) talked about ale brewing from techniques to tip-and-tricks.

Ing. Petr Menšík, the brewster from Svijany spoke about real Czech beer and defended his brewery from trolls

Honza Zimmermann, brought with him his mini-brewery called Kobra and spoke a little about some challenges of building one.

PIHA 2010 (Prague International Homebrew Award) took place at this occasion too!

S (3.5): Strong smell of alcohol is almost inevitable. Smoked honey or creme brule.

T (3.5): Alcohol is not so persistent as in smell, but the caramel taste is there.

M (3.5): Strong body with high carbonation.

D (4): One of the Belgiums must have. I like it.
